Silver Keeper
I bought an aquarium of an experienced aquarium keeper. Please can you comment on his recommendations of fish?
he recommended for healthy, low maintainance stock i buy:
one pair of dwarf gouramis, which grow to 2 inches
four zebra danios, which grow to an inch
four cardinal tetras, which grow to an inch
4 male guppys which grow to an inch
2 kuli loaches which grow to three inches
2 corydoras which grow to two inches
and a bristlenose/veiltail/albino ansistrus
he said to avoid:
plecostamus as they grow to twelve inches
silver dollars as they grow to 8 inches
angel fish as they grow to 6 to 8inches
sharks for no given reason
and any other tetras besides cardinal with no given reason
this is for a 25 gallon tank btw.
do you agree with his recommendations?

I would have to stress to you that the Tetras and the Zebra Danios should be in schools of at least 6 so you have a properly functioning school within the tank. I’m not to familiar with Khuli loaches, but I do know that Corydoras need to be in groups of 3 or more as well since they are very social fish. The Guppies are fine, but if it were me, I would hand pick them in the pet store just so you are sure they are all males.
Plecostomus are not all the same. The bristle nose that he recommended is in fact a Plecostomus, but usually doesn’t grow over 6 inches whilst a Common Pleco will grow a foot and more.
Everything else is up to you.
