International Text Msging & Calling?
I am Canadian, my friend left on a trip to Brazil recently, I was wondering if international text msging fees still exist even though I have unlimited texting msging & both of our phones are registered as Canadian phones. The phone company I am with is Rogers. Also, will I be charged long distance fees if he calls me?
It would still be free for you to send a text message to your friend, your friend should still be able to receive text in Brazil for free (this would be the case if your friend was also on Rogers, although I’m not completely sure of other carriers)
If your friend were to send a text message back to you, they would then be subject to a roaming text charge (with Rogers this would be $0.60 per sent text message)
There are no long distance charges for you to receive a call on the Rogers Wireless network as long as you are within your home area – regardless of where the call originated from. In that scenario, it would be the person placing the call that would be subject to long distance and roaming charges.
If you receive calls while you are outside of your home area (for example are in Ottawa but have a Toronto number), then every single call you receive would be long distance regardless of where the call originates from.
