Rare Sterling Silver
Who gave the following gifts to the Queen of England, Bush, Obama or both?
1. A cowgirl statue
2. Photos from a previous royal visit
3. Digitized footage of the queen
4. A sterling silver box
5. A rare songbook signed by a famous American composer
I’m thinking there is too much being made of the gifts given. It’s not like these gifts are always huge and meaningful and fraught with historical consequence.
While Gordon Brown might have given Obama some very fancy gifts, it was more in recognition of his “historical” significance as the first black president. I’m pretty sure most of the gifts exchanged between Bush and foreign dignitaries were not exactly awesome, either.
Let’s not let it distract us from the substance of his trip to the summit. He needs to squelch some of the bad ideas being proposed by some of the Europeans.
