Plate Spoon
How old was your toddler when they started using a plate & spoon at meal time?
My daughter is 13 months and likes to throw food & everything thats placed in front of her, so I don’t think she’s quite ready yet.
I work at a childcare center….and when the children reach 15 months they usually leave the nursery (where the infants are) and they go up to the toddler group.
In the nursery each child has a high chair and the food is just placed on the tray of the high chair (of course after and before every meal the high chair is sanitized and cleaned very well)…
at about 15 months in the toddler room is when the children will get their own plate/spoon/fork. Many times they dont pick up the concept until 18months or so. usually by 18 months they’re all using their own plates/spoons (but of course they wont always use the spoon, we have to remind them to use their spoons and not their fingers…its just easier for them to use their fingers becuase their fine motor skills arent that great yet…and using the spoon requires the fine motor skills.)…
I dont see anything wrong with letting your little one go a bit longer without her own plate. Maybe when she throws her food you can gasp and look sad and say something like “Ohhh that makes mommy sad”(in a sad voice)… After a while she’ll see that its something you disapprove of and the behavior will stop (it’ll stop anyways eventually)…

After she stops throwing food that is placed in front of her, maybe that would be a good time to re-introduce the plate.
