Ottoman Turkish
Do you consider the Turkish Republic as a state as the continuation of the Ottoman Empire?

I’m not interested in the opinions of Turkish people only. Actually, the opinions of non-Turkish users have particularly a special value for me because of their distance to the subject. Of course, we don’t have to agree with such opinions but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t listen to what these people have to say.
No, It is not.
Turkish Republic is not a continuation of Ottoman Empire as stated in Misak-ı Milli, at first. The people who founded T.R. stated that in the constitution, as well.
Here follows what i think,
Ottoman Empire was a multinational-state whereas Turkey is a nation-state. There were capitulations for non-muslims, people in the Ottoman -no need to mention there was not democracy- in Turkish Republic EVERYONE is equal which means no priviliges to anyone (practically the situation might have been changed due to the imperfect governments got on the stage during the time but this is how it was and how it is in the law now and then)…
As stated by Irmak, I think culturally, as a matter of fact, we slightly continue the culture Ottoman also had but, I guess it has changed A LOT. However, i would prefer to call it Anatolian Culture.
How? After the Turkish Republic was founded, Public houses (Halk Evleri), educational constitutions, factories and modern living areas around them (and interesting detail here: at that time[1930s] they builded houses which had bathroom and toilet in them and then the the houses are taken as models by the German investigators who were to build Germany up after WWI…) cinemas, theatres etc. And together with the social revolutions of Ataturk, the people had a quick modernization period
and most importantly,
i think that is why an Arab (they also were included in the Ottoman Empire) and a Turk are totally different, first because we here have a better education which promotes research, production, modern life and open mindedness (the last one is kind of axed by Öss but it still does)..
So, neither culturally nor politically we re a continuation of Ottoman states, only genetics.
That is generally what i think…
PS: My answer should not be considered as an offense to my Arabic fellows, but an objective approach to the systematical difference.
