I have a lot of old stock papers, what can I do with them?
My great-great-uncle was an avid collector of EVERYTHING, and I have a folder of about 500 old stock holder certificates that he had. I have flipped through them and saw dates from the 30′s to the 70′s. It looks like some of them may be from other countries…I see one for a company in Japan. Is there any way these papers would be of any value? I have no knowledge of this whatsoever!

The site includes a section on “intrinsic value” where they will attempt to determine if the stocks have any intrinsic value for a fee. Given the number of certificates you have that fee may be prohibitively high.

Even if the certificates do not have any intrinsic value they may have value as a collectable. Doing a google search on “scripophily” is likely to get you links to many collectors’ sites which you can use to do your own research.
A stock certificate has intrinsic value if it represents valid ownership of part of an existing company, even if it is not the company that originally issued the stock. For example, if a stock certificate for 100 shares of ABCD company was issued in 1950 and ABCD was bought out by XYZ for 1 share of XYZ for every 2 shares of ABCD, the certificate would be exchanges for 50 shares of XYZ. Over a period of decades there may have been multiple buyouts.
