Knife Rests
Does any know about this knife I have?
In Crested Butte, Co., there is a bar named Kochevar’s. This saloon was in business at the turn of the last century. I was told of a legend about a time when Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid were hiding out from a posse and stopped there for a rest. Apparently this town allowed outlaws to enter the town only if they surrendered thier weapons at the place where they were stopping in town. During thier stay, one was upstairs with a prostitute and the other was drinking. The posse entered the town and the outlaws had to leave so quickly that they left thier weapons behind. The barkeep held on to them thinking they would return for them. They never did. The weapons were on display later in sort of a mini museum at the bar for years. When the bar was remodeled in 1993 or so the gun went on tour with the grandson (bar is still in the family) the knife was given to one of the persons helping in the remodel. It is now in my possession. Can anyone help me verify this story and knife?
You could try going to Crested Butte and ask around about it. I’m sure they’d have a record of this event if it actually happened. =) Or try calling them.
