Grande Baroque
Honestly should I learn?
I learned Alkan’s Allegro Barbaro not too long ago and I just found out that octaves were my best technique(which I honestly thought would be pretty bad due to my octave limited stretch at that time,now I’m ninth)
I was wondering should I bother learning Chopin’s Op.25 No.10…Are there any benefits learning this at all?
The pieces I’m currently learning is Chopin’s Op.25 No.1,Alkan’s Op.33 Grande Sonata “Les Quarte Ages” 1st Movement 20 ans and Liszt’s La Campanella.
As you can see I’m a pretty “into” Etudes which I admit make up a huge part of my current repertoire(I’m hoping to extend further into Baroque soon or at least Classical)

I swear I’m having deja vu. I had the same exact problem. My octave technique has always been one of my strengths, so I though that Chopin’s etude 25, 10 would be a breeze.
Was I wrong or what! It was very difficult. Look at the score, it’s not just octaves, but chords with innards that you should (some teachers argue that you don’t have too) hold while playing the surrounding octaves. It is VERY painful at first, and takes lots of gradual practice to be able to play it fluidly.
It’s a dangerous etude. If you do it the wrong way you will injure yourself. Learn it very slowly. Play it only for about 10 minutes every day for a month or two…
I’d learn it if I were you, it’s a blast to play and the middle section is gorgeous.
You need to play some Baroque music. Bach’s Well Tempered Clavier is just screaming out to you to be played. His fugues are bloody awesome…
