Fork Spoon
What is a good way to teach kids to use their fork/spoon?
For the longest time, I would feed my daughter with a fork/spoon while she held on, and now she wants to do it herself and gets frustrated when she can’t do it. It ends up with her using her hands instead of her fork/spoon or she ends up playing with the fork/spoon instead. Will it work out itself in time, or am I missing something? She is going to be 18 months old on the 29th. Thanks.
Hve her use her fork or spoon on a favorite dish. Praise her everytime she uses her spoon, remove the dish when she starts using her hands (without saying anything.) After a few moments (she will probably be crying by then, but don’t let her get too upset) replace the dish, guide her hands with the spoon and praise her again. Repeat the process. If she starts throwing, remove the dish and try again at the next meal, again without saying anything. Ignore the crying, though, or it will be twice the battle at the next meal.
