A typo in my test preparation book?
The passage given is a bit long, so I will only type out the last bit:
” In the “age of heroes”, however, the content and purpose of Greek poetry changed. By this later period, Greek communities had become separated into classes. People living in the same community, therefore, had different, even opposed, interests; they shared fewer ideas and emotions. Poets were assigned a new task: to celebrate the accomplishments of outstanding characters, whether they were real or not, rather than the activity and history of the community” Basically, the gist of the passage is that earlier Greek poetry focused on concerns of the community, and later it focused on individuals. Here’s the question: “Which situation is most like the one involving poets in the heroic age as it is presented in the passage?”
A. sports team relies increasingly on the efforts of a star player
B. A group of reporters publicizes the influence of celebrities in historical events.
I pcked B. Why am I wrong?
The answer is “A” because the poetry at the beginning deals with the concerns of the community and moves toward individual concerns. A sports team starts out has a whole team, but eventually becomes a more “individual” team.
