Bouillon Spoons
Is it safe to say that drinking broth/bouillon takes more energy to consume than it has calories?
Essentially, one could drink (or “eat”) limitless broth (from powder or cube) and never gain weight, right? At roughly 5 kcal per bouillon cube or cup of prepared broth, you burn off the “food”‘s calories in the 10 minutes it takes to drink the liquid, whether sipped or with a spoon. Would you concur?
Most broths I have seen are loaded with fats. However, if yours is 5 calories, then it’s 5 calories. Make sure you check the sodium content. High levels of sodium can cause water retention, which causes bloating. Also, it is very unhealthy to consume large levels of sodium, because it raises blood pressure and puts a strain on the heart. So, assuming it is low in calories and sodium, you can assume you would lose weight. But if you used this as a diet tool, when you did start eating again, your metabolism would be slower from starving yourself, so the weight would come back easier. Rather than just drinking broth,perhaps try adding raw vegetables and fruits to your diet. This adds fiber, which is filling, as well as needed nutrients, and keeps your metabolism going.
