Do white people even know what black culture is?
I always hear them say “I hate the black culture” but they probably have never been to a black play or theatre, seen black modern dancers (like alvin aley), or been to a black spoken word poetry jam, or read black literature.
do any of you guys know what n e g r o spirituals are?
don’t you know elvis ripped off black culture?
does jazz and blues ring a bell?
the majority of popular music and dance stems from black culture from the 1800′s-1950′s.
if you hate black culture, you hate music and art in general.

Well, as you can see from most of the comments, most see only the negative, and thumbed up the answers that reflect what they view as the end all be all of black culture.
As many white people have very little contact with black people, many base their knowledge entirely off of what they see on TV, movies, music, etc. Also, many of the beautiful, positive parts of our culture, like the poetry, art, and our contribution to American music, is not taught in schools.
Other things that I like about our culture is our warmness, openness, hospitable nature(which contributed to that whole “southern hospitality”), our great food (again, southern food owes much to black culture), our respect for our elders, and our unbreakable spirit in the face of adversity.
Those who have eyes opened and are not prejudging, will see that. Those who have eyes and heart closed will only see the negative.
