Beautiful Sterling
is this a good or bad idea for my toasting flutes?
i inherited a set of beautiful Sterling Silver wine glasses from my grandmother when she passed away. i was thinking about getting them polished up and using them as my toasting flutes at my reception as my “something old.” they aren’t flutes, but big, full, bell-shaped wine glasses, so i don’t know if this would be ok, as we are definitely having a champagne toast, not wine.
I think it’s a lovely idea, and a pox on anyone who gets sniffy that the Silver Goblets (I assume they’re goblets) aren’t appropriate.
However, an issue to think about: you are going to be busy and unable to keep track of the silver goblets the whole time. Unless you have someone who can “babysit” the goblets to make sure that they are kept safe, you may want to think hard about bringing them to the reception. With wait staff, guests, caterers, photographers, and others moving around, someone may end up stealing one of your silver goblets. I know that’s a terrible thing to say, but some people are outright dishonest and are on the make to steal things, and other people are just weak and if they were tempted by the opportunity, might take one.
It’s a lovely idea but if you do use the silver goblets, make sure someone responsible keeps track of them for you to keep them safe.
