Whats a popular antique German stein brand in Germany? ?
My brother in law is German. I would like to get something part of heritage. He enjoys beer so I thought a antique stein would be nice. And what kind of stein should I get him? A wooden, silver or glass?

You can also get Thewalt, Kings, and many others. But if you want to get a “new” german made collectors stein your options are more open. Be sure the stein is made in Germany and not Brazil or China. But by open I do not mean the number of manufactuerers. As the number of stein makers in Germany has dropped to just 3-5 as the rest of them contract out of Germany for the production of the stein. It is not German now is it?
Old wooden steins are very difficult and usually very expensive. I myself would like antique wooden beer mugs/steins. I think of an ole 15th or 16th century smokey pub with the locals drinking their ole ales from wooden mugs.

Silver is also more rare and expensive but both antiques and contemporary steins can be found.
I also like crystal stains. Some are very nice (okay, pretty) with amber, crimson, and cobalt-blue colored glass and nice art work.
My stein collection includes 10 collectibles and 5 antiques. Of the antiques 2 are perwter and two are the Mettlach (1 pug, 1 etched). Later I will seek out and collect Mettlach Cameo steins.

A good price and not real expensive for a first gift. Okay not a stein but it is antique German ceramic-ware.
Stein 2627 is an example of the Cameo I have mentioned. Real nice-huh? pg 2
Stein 1266 is one I have. I got because of the Brewer’s Star.
No matter what you get he will enjoy it. Be sure to print some information to give him with the gift to give a history and deeper meaning to the work.

I just won a bid for Mettlach #2608 .3L Cameo InlayLid on eBay. This is my first cameo. It book lists for $425 and I paided $165. I am SOOOO ass-slappin’ happy.
